PUG-L

This list is intended to provide petroleum-related users of ESRI software with a forum to exchange technical information and expertise. It will not compete, nor substitute, for any other ESRI forum (CompuServe for PC-based products; ESRI-L for generic GIS subjects).

General Rules and Charter of PUG-L

The list is intended to be a private, trouble-shooting aid for those in the Oil & Gas industry who use ESRI software. It is a place to exchange ideas about the use of GIS within the industry and provide a means to exchange AML's or Avenue scripts that are not considered to be proprietary by your company. Its primary purpose is to provide the subscriber with a source for quick and accurate information about ESRI software and GIS procedures and practices from others in the same working environment.

While it is not intended to be used as a "help-wanted" or resume-posting bulletin board, the vagaries of the oil & gas industry mandate some flexibility in this regard. Requests for vendor reccomendations are tolerated, provided that the hardware/software solutions are something that ESRI users normally use and/or purchase.

In the Geosciences we include every scientific activity that seeks to understand planetary processes, materials, history, environments and resources (geology, geophysics, oceanography, paleontology, etc.). The geosciences professional community is equally broad in scope, including professors, students and alumni, employees of government agencies, museums, energy, resource and environmental companies, independents and consultants, researchers, managers, teachers, and anyone else who is interested in teaching, learning or applying the geosciences.

The Greater Houston Area is a world power center for geosciences activity, with numerous company headquarters, research labs, universities, and government agencies, in a metropolitan environment that is multicultural and international. At any particular time, geoscientists with ties to Houston may be stationed in Azerbaijan or Antarctica, doing field work in Tibet or Trans-Pecos Texas, or conducting research in the Smithsonian or a space station. Therefore, for purposes of this list, the Greater Houston Area includes all of Planet Earth plus adjacent regions of the Solar System.
